You can call me “Susie” for short

Look what I spent the weekend doing!
In all fairness to the division of labor, I have to start over and make a few corrections. Look what my sister, Jessica, spent the weekend doing. While I ate way too many peaches, tried to keep my oversized belly out of the way, and miserably failed at trying to keep the countertop clean while she did most the work on our canning. To argue that I did do a little of the work I was going to post a picture of my swollen ankles. However, that would require me to get off the couch and retrive my camera from the kitchen counter. And to be completely honest with you, I don’t think it’s worth it. So instead just take a look down at your pretty little ankles. Add about 10 pounds of water weight. Now take away all definition of an ankle bone. If you are getting a very unattractive picture of an ankle, you are right on track. That is exactly what they look like….ONLY WORSE!

I have never felt more attractive. Pregnancy makes me shine, baby! And while we worked on the canning, this is what our girls spent the weekend doing.

They quite possibly could have been neglected for a better part of the day.
Now wait, before you call child services on us; take another look at our beautiful Raspberry-Peach Jam. No negligent mama could whip together a bottle of jam that looks that good.
Plus, for a few added points on our behalf, we did remember to feed them.
Canning peaches, tomatoes and jam AND feeding our kids all in the same day. I think we deserve some kind of award for that!

This could be the Tylenol PM Talking!

For some reason last night I was unable to fall asleep. So, I laid there and pondered what time I’d need to put the roast in the crock-pot the next day, worried about making an appointment to see the dentist, calculated the ratio of the U.S. dollar to the Euro, and solved quadratic equations in my head. And after all that I still wasn’t tired. So, I tried to figure out exactly why you have to read “Animal Farm” in middle school, how I could get People magazine to pay me $14 million dollars for a picture of our baby, and what I was going to do with the $20.00 that was burning a hole in my wallet. Then it came to me. I could give my $20.00 away in the form of an Applebee’s gift certificate. And you could be the recipient!

So welcome to Our Life Unedited's first ever (and quite possibly the last) contest! To enter you need to guess the date and time that Baby Boy M. will be blessing us with his presence. If your guess is the closest then you will be the new owner of a shiny $20.00 gift certificate to Applebee’s.

Here’s how you enter. In the comment sections post the date and time that you think our new arrival will make his debut. If you don’t have a Blog you can still enter, just post your entry under anonymous and then put your name in the comment section with your guess. Or you can email me with your best guess. If you are reading this post because you clicked on a friend’s link, then clicked on a friends link, then clicked on a friends link, that’s fine. We are all about equal opportunity here at Our Life Unedited. Feel free to enter. Hey, it’s a free $20.00 gift certificate.

And if you are a closet blog reader and would like to remain anonymous. That too, is fine. It just means that Spence and I will be enjoying Applebee’s on you. Here is a tad bit of information to help you make an informed decision.
  • My due date is September 27th.
  • Brynlee’s due date was April 9th and she came on March 22nd.
  • I prefer to let the baby come when it’s ready so most likely I will not be induced.
  • However, pregnancy has its way of making you sway in your beliefs. So, I am not promising you that I won’t be asking my doctor for Pitocin in a Big Gulp if he takes to long.
Good Luck!

Nothing says welcome like plus size panties!

Today Brynlee and I had our morning o’ errands fun run. It is always an enjoyable experience to spend the day on a shopping extravaganza with Brynlee. There are really few experiences more pleasant than trying to make wise purchasing decisions in the midst of a store surrounded with breakable things and a 2 year old.

Brynlee and I ended up at Family Dollar due to the fact the Children’s Boutique that I needed to go to didn’t open for another 30 minutes. And what a better place to waste 30 minutes that in a store where you can buy a lot of unneeded items for cheap! When we first walked in the door Brynlee informed me that she wanted to buy something for baby boy. Since her income level is roughly ZERO that means it would be my money buying an unneeded plastic Family Dollar item that Brynlee found suited for her new baby brother. However, I agreed mainly to appease her.

About four steps into the store Brynlee found the item that she felt would say welcome to the family baby brother. She grabbed a 3X size pair of Minnie Mouse ladies underwear and informed me that baby boy would absolutely love them. I tried to quickly talk her out of the purchase but her mind was made up, this was the gift for him. To spare myself the embarrassment of a two year old tantrum while holding a plus size pair of underwear I told her to put them in the cart.

Oh, how I wish this were the end of my story….but it’s not! A lot of times when I buy clothing items I hang them on the front rail of the shopping cart so Brynlee doesn’t step on them as she actively jumps from the children’s seat to the back of the cart. When shopping, safety is always my number one concern. Since the monstrous underwear where so nicely hung on a hanger Brynlee thought it was fitting to hang them right on the front of the cart for the world to see. Nothing like wearing a large billboard that says, “Hi, I shop at the Family Dollar and wear extremely large Minnie Mouse underwear, nice to meet you.”

So, check out my eBay listing if you are in need of an extra pair of Minnie Mouse undies for your next baby shower. Oh, I’m just kidding. When she was momentarily distracted by the large display of plastic artificial flowers, I quickly shoved them between the shower curtains and bathroom mats. Luckily the next aisle had a display of Gatorade and the immediate life-or-death need to quench her thirst took priority over finding a welcome to the family gift for her new baby brother. And I think that baby boy will be just fine with being forgotten this time around.

Making Progress

In preparation for our new little guy I have done a little rearranging. I wish I were talking about organizing the little guy’s clothes and buying diapers, but….I’m not. I haven’t gotten even close to that far. This pregnancy has done something to me. I am not my normal OCD self. Something is different about the second baby versus the first. When I was pregnant with Brynlee I started stressing about 4 months into the pregnancy that her baby room wasn’t done and her crib wasn’t up. Bless my heart. Like if Brynlee showed up 3 months early she would have looked around and said, “Wow. What a dump. I should have stayed in the belly where things were dark and beautiful.” Apparently this time I have hit the other extreme. I have decided that five weeks to D-day is the perfect time to start worrying about where the little thing is going to sleep. I am happy to report that I have gotten Brynlee’s room done, so now I can start thinking about putting up a crib or at least a pack-and-play in Brynlee’s old room. I don’t want to set my expectations to high, but I am hoping to have baby boy’s room finished before my new little guy is preparing for Kindergarten. I’ll let y’all know how it goes and in the mean time here are some pictures of Brynlee’s new big sis room!

Olympian at Heart

Oh, the OLYMPICS! I can’t get enough. I love them. But, then again what is not to love about sitting on the couch with a pint of ice-cream watching others contend for six minutes something that they have spent an entire lifetime practicing for.

To be honest with you, I really think that I could do well in the Olympics. There is just one problem…I’m not all that athletic. I would say that gymnastics would be my event, but due to my quickly growing stomach I can no longer see (let alone touch) my toes so that might put a small kink in my training. And since I would rather eat my right arm then jump off any kind of diving board, and truly start to panic if my head goes under water I don’t think any of the swimming sports are for me. And seeing how The Race car Shopping Cart Marathon or Warming up DinoNuggets are not yet an Olympic Sport my Olympic dreams are on hold. It’s too bad, because I really could be the Michael Phelps of both of those events.

However, since I am a beauty school graduate, it might qualify me to help the female gymnast put 125 clippies in their hair before they perform. Seriously, there must be some kind of hidden purpose to all of those hair barrettes, because nobody in their right mind would take 35 minutes putting in hair clippies without a reason.

Or, I know, I could be an Olympic reporter. My first story would be on Michael Phelps and what he is listening to on his iPod. Why has Matt Lauer not jumped on this story? Bob Costas? SOMEONE. Get to it. Speaking of Michael Phelps, I seriously stress every time he wears his pants only swimsuit…those things are low and I fear a wardrobe malfunction at any moment.

I also have to say that Men’s Synchronized diving makes me a little uncomfortable. And, yet, as weird as Spence and I think it is, we can’t NOT watch it. In fact, we not only watch it, but I also find us making all sorts of comments about the speed of rotation and reaching vertical like we totally know what we’re talking about. And we do! Anyways, back to the Olympics for me.

Happenings!

Okay…so I am the first to admit that I am a BIG FAT BLOG SLACKER! I have been busy standing in front of the open freezer and taking naps with my feet on the air conditioning vents to try to keep my pregnant little self comfortable. Seven more weeks, baby! Seven more weeks! Here is an update of a few things that have been going on.
  • My family went to the Twin Falls Temple Open House. I’m not sure why my mom, sisters and I thought that taking the entire family to the temple would be a peaceful, spiritual experience. It turns out that little girls begging to go swimming in the baptismal font, trying to jump on the oh so beautiful and white furniture, and screaming through an entire video because it doesn’t involve bright colors and rhyming words is…well…less than spiritual. After we got out of the temple we had had enough of the children wrestling and decided to eat somewhere where we could have a little peace, quiet and adult conversation. Because we have class and style we ended up in the play land at Artic Circle.
  • Last Friday we made our way to Payson, UT to visit with Spence’s family. When we made plans to visit nobody informed us that it was highly probable that this could be our last trip to Payson EVER. It turns out there was a forest fire about 5 miles from Spence’s parents house that day that burned about 750 acres. I think it is 100% contained now and my in-laws house is still standing. While in Payson we got to see Spence’s little sister compete in her swim meet, visit with Anna, Mike and Lillie before they headed off to D.C. for school, visit Gretta and her girls since we missed them last time they came down from Albuquerque, and give my mother-in-law well wishes since she just got out of surgery.
  • That night we stayed in SLC. The Holiday Inn boasted that it had a heated pool for their customer’s enjoyment. They forgot to add that it was heated to a mere 17 degrees.
  • On Saturday we went to the B. Family Reunion. It was the first family reunion since my Grandma B. passed away so it was attended with mixed feelings. I’m pretty sure Grandma was looking down from heaven and smiling.
  • Especially when she saw the hat that my Aunt Jillene gave to my Dad.
  • It says "If Dolly Parton was Farming she would be FLAT BUSTED TOO"
  • Speaking of the B. family. It’s my Grandpa B’s birthday today. Happy Birthday Grandpa! WE LOVE YOU!!
  • That night we went to Jessica’s house and played card games and the Wii. And by that I mean that the girls played card games until about 1:30 in the morning while we patiently waited for our turn on the Wii. Needless to say, our turn never happened.
  • We all stayed the night at Jess and Brad’s that night. I wish I were kidding when I say that their was an air mattress on every square inch of her house including one on the kitchen floor, but I’m not. Like I said early, WE HAVE STYLE AND CLASS! Nothing like moving the kitchen chairs outside on the patio so you have enough room to blow up the air mattress for a little R&R. Classy, definitely classy!
  • On Sunday we went to my sis-in-laws for a visit. Sarah and Brett whipped together some Holy Amazin’ Dutch Oven Dinner right on their back porch. It was so good that I am going to invest in my very own dutch oven chimney thing-a-ma jiggy!! When Sarah apologized for the “fatting” dinner I looked at her like LADY, YOU NEED TO BACK OFF WITH YOUR CRAZY. I don’t care how many cubes of butter or how much bacon fat you put in that dutch oven of yours anything that good is worth 40 or 8000 extra calories.
  • Did I mention that I only have seven more weeks?
